I believe that thorough education on strength training should be a part of PT school curriculum. I also believe that this education should include labs in which students learn, perform, and coach the big basic lifts (squat, deadlift, bench, overhead press, pullup, pushup, row, lunge etc) and their progressions/regressions

These lifts have been around forever because they're effective AND SAFE if performed and programmed appropriately

I can't explain how frustrated I am when I see/hear of PTs giving their patients awful lifting advice and saying things such as squats are bad for your knees, you'll herniate a disc if you deadlift, if you lift overhead you're going to hurt your rotator cuff
-
This type of advice makes it clear that these individuals have never taken the time to learn or train these lifts, which I find very discouraging because we're supposed to be THE movement and exercise experts

How can we claim that title when an embarrassingly large number of our colleagues can't even perform an unloaded bodyweight squat with good mechanics?!

If our profession wants to be taken seriously as providers who are movement/exercise experts, it is essential that they implement this education in school. Until then, do some research and application of the subject, and don't be that PT giving cringe-worthy exercise advice

My advice (which is free by the way. No strings.) ask questions. Are you qualified to give this advice? Or are you pulling it out of your orifice? Ahhh...the topic of unnecessary surgeries is upon us yet again. 🤓

First, it was spinal fusions. Not always the solution to your back pain woes.

Then, it was menisectomies. Again, not always the answer for pain due to a meniscus tear.
.
.
Now, the media has shone some light on knee replacements—a feasible option for some with arthritic knee pain that are simply unable to live the way they would like to because of pain. However, no two knees are created equal. It is important for surgeons to determine whether or not an individual is a strong candidate for a knee replacement before going in. As I have seen firsthand, some patients respond wonderfully to the surgery. Others...well, not so much. And if you have one relatively young...yea...you might need another one before you die. Where’s the fun in that? ‍️

Moral of the story is this: knee replacements certainly have their place, but are not a cure-all for patients with arthritic knee pain. ‍️
.
.
NO MATTER WHAT! Try PT first. It is possible that an individual can build the tolerance to movement through exercise and education. AND this will save us money?

Lay down on the floor like in my video and just breathe. If your chest goes up like in my first video, you’re chest breathing. Most of you will be breathing like that, but don’t worry. I got a solution for you. Put one hand in your belly and the other one in your chest and be intentional in moving the hand in your belly while maintaining the one in your chest immovable. After dominating that, put your legs up (like in the second part of the second video) and breathe through your belly. This one’s a little bit more difficult because you have to use your core muscles to do it. This are the most basic exercises to correct your breathing. I’ll post more advanced ones some other day. Aim for 15 deep breathes of each exercise. You should be able to look like me in the last video (belly breathing) after dominating this basic exercises. Several months ago, I was told to reach out to @benpalmer.dpt who owns @m1movement in Phoenix, AZ because it’s an area I’d consider living after I graduate PT school. So that’s exactly what I did!

Ben and I kept in touch, occasionally messaging on IG. Sometimes it was about private practice and treatment philosophies, others were about fantasy football.

Through social media, I’ve gained many people who I’d consider friends, even though I’ve never met them in real life. My door is always open to these people if they’re passing through town, because I know they’d do the same for me.

Ben is one of those people that opened his door to me. Yesterday was filled with talking business, future plans, physical therapy, CrossFit, and many other topics. Not only this but he took me to my first ever CrossFit class at @crossfitblade and it was a blast! Such a great atmosphere, community, and experience.

1️⃣ En dicha posición de partida, se buscará únicamente ir a tocar con la punta del pie la camilla (SOLO realizando una flexión de rodilla) y volver a la posición inicial, seguidamente haremos lo mismo con el otro pie. 
2️⃣ En dicha posición de partida, MANTENIENDO los 90º de rodilla, se buscará tocar con la punta del pie la camilla (SOLO realizando una extensión de cadera) y volver a la posición inicial, seguidamente haremos lo mismo con el otro pie. 
3️⃣ En dicha posición de partida, haremos el mismo movimiento que en la segunda fase, pero esta vez añadiremos movimiento de los brazos, es decir, el brazo pasará de posición vertical a horizontal, como si quisiéramos tocar la camilla. Importante: se realiza en diagonales, es decir, cuando se produzca el movimiento de la pierna D, el brazo que se moverá será el I. El movimiento será SIMULTÁNEO.

4️⃣ En dicha posición de partida, haremos el mismo movimiento que en la tercera fase, pero en lugar de realizar el ejercicio en cadena diagonal se realizará en cadena longitudinal. Es decir, cuando se produzca el movimiento de la pierna D, el brazo que se moverá también será el D. El movimiento será SIMULTÁNEO. 
5️⃣ En dicha posición de partida, haremos el mismo movimiento que en la tercera fase, pero en este caso extenderemos del todo la pierna. Es decir, se hará en cadena diagonal, pero en el movimiento de la pierna no se mantendrá la flexión a 90° de la rodilla. El movimiento será SIMULTÁNEO.

I'm always thrilled by the intelligence of our bodies. The more we move, the more we know and feel our body, the more we bridge the supposed gap between mind and body.

In my opinion, there don't has to be a gap! While we are feeling and thinking mostly with our brain, we forget that every single joint and muscle is a feeling unit that learns through Movement and that gives us signals too.
.
When we don't move, we lose this connection, living up in our heads and only focus on our body when there is pain or an other problem. When we move we can reach this state where our body is present, every joint sending signals and feelings just like thoughts. There I feel that it's all one, that the mind is part of the body.

To feel the difference, I like to do this exercise in the video. Only working on one side and feel how the awareness changes through movement. After the exercise feeling that I have a perfect body, with perfect tools, the mind one of them.

Es hat sich optisch nicht sehr viel verändert,noch bin ich gertenschlank und auch auf der Waage ist das Gewicht nach wie vor noch das Selbe,aber ich finde schon dass die Rückseite anders als im Sommer 2017 aussieht.
Für diesen Post erwarte ich keinerlei Beifall,sondern möchte lediglich deutlich machen,dass man auch ohne etwas an der Ernährung zu verändern,ohne auf etwas verzichten zu müssen,dafür aber mit regelmäßigen (!) intensiven (!) Training durchaus etwas erreichen kann!!!  #dranbleiben lohnt sich!

Following up from the video Fix your neck/Reverse your Dowager's hump!, here's a finisher to complete your neck rehab. 

Prolonged hunching or straightening of the thoracic spine results in relative poor scapular posture. 
The previously overly-fatigued upper trapezius muscles would need to be taught how to relax again, while the atrophied lower trapezii would need to be strengthened.

The above exercises are listed in order of difficulty. Choose the level that works for you and hammer it out daily for 3-5 sets of 10-15! 

Note:
To prevent your rear deltoid from compensating, keep your thumbs point down in the 'A'-raise & thumbs up in the 'Y'-raise.

Dragged my reluctant feet into the gym today and reluctantly managed to mostly keep my reluctant head above water.

Squats : 4 x 2 at what was supposed to be 365-375lbs @ 7, but ended up being dubs at 335 x 2, 345 x 1 and 350.

Bench: Was supposed to be a top triple at 245lbs. Lol. Guess I'll settle for the dub. As usual, post-set Jared is a poet.

integrated dry needling  uses acupuncture needles inserted into myofascial trigger points using a painless technique to insert the needle - besides @mendphysiolindsay’s face right now!!  and most of the effects are dependent on eliciting a local twitch response (LTR) at the trigger point  which will feel like your muscle is “contracting” and it’s normal to feel soreness afterwards.



effects of dry needling include:
• decreasing chemicals causing inflammation • increasing oxygen and vasodilation, thereby increasing blood flow to the area
• endorphin release • altering of a muscle fiber’s length and tension • muscle relaxation • reduces the spontaneous electrical activity “background noise” of the muscle.



Picture the LTR as the reset button , like flicking the switch of your electrical panel  to reset the electrical outlet and reduce the “background noise” electrical activity in your trigger point . The LTR also creates a water flush out effect  increasing blood flow and “flushing out” inflammatory chemicals !



it’s normal to feel a little sore post dry needling for 2-4 hours, up to 24 hours, and it can feel like delayed onset muscle soreness (aka DOMS) like after you’ve gone for a run ‍️or worked out really hard ️‍️ and the effects can last up to a week post needling!

It's been really hard watching my muscles mass disappear over the past 6 weeks specially at my lower body. It also sucks bcoz i can't train my upper body the way i'd like with my shoulder injury.
Just i can't find the words to describe my frustrations not being able to train normally.
Going to gym is so important to me and right now its like giving a kid a bag of candies and saying they can't touch it. I see all the big dumbbells but still i can't use them.

MITOS SOBRE EL DOLOR DE ESPALDA

A PARTIR DE AHORA SIEMPRE ME VA A DOLER.
Aunque al principio el dolor sea intenso, en la mayoría de los casos la recuperación es rápida y muy buena.  Con una buena valoración y un tratamiento correcto, se puede lograr una recuperación satisfactoria.
DEBERÍA OPERARME.
Solo una mínima parte de las personas con dolor de espalda o hernias va a requerir cirugía.  Un buen diagnostico y un tratamiento conservador suele ser más efectivo. 
La cirugía no muestra mejores resultados que el ejercicio o la fisioterapia.
CUANTO MÁS DUELE, MÁS DAÑO DEBO TENER.
El daño en los tejidos no está asociado directamente con nuestra percepción del dolor. El dolor es un proceso complejo que depende de muchos factores. 
Podemos tener poco daño tisular y presentar un gran dolor, o un gran daño tisular y poco dolor. A dos personas con una misma lesión en los tejidos, les puede provocar niveles diferentes de dolor.
TENGO ALGO FUERA DE SU SITIO.
No hay evidencia de que el dolor se deba a subluxaciones, dismetrías, etc. 
Una manipulación vertebral no te va a ponerlas vertebras en su sitio. Las hernias no se reducen con la manipulación, además de tener poca relación con el dolor. Existe un gran número de personas con hernias y protrusiones que no presentan ningún síntoma.
NECESITO UNA RADIOGRAFÍA O UNA RESONANCIA.
Las pruebas de imagen son complementarias y normalmente son innecesarias, excepto en casos con signos de problema grave. Los hallazgos pueden además no estar relacionados con el dolor, provocar un sobrediagnóstico y un peor pronóstico.
DEBERÍA DESCANSAR Y NO MOVERME
Mantenerse activo es lo más importante en situaciones de dolor. El descanso prolongado es inútil y aumenta los niveles de dolor, la incapacidad y favorece una pobre recuperación.
UN ANTIINFLAMATORIO LO CURA TODO
Estudios científicos nos muestran que los antiinflamatorios solo ofrecen un alivio a corto plazo del dolor muy limitado. Además, los pacientes que toman antiinflamatorios son 2,5 veces más propensos a problemas gastrointestinales como sangrado y úlceras.

Congrats mama and thank you for the insight! Repost from @theliftingphysio using @RepostRegramApp - Not much of a bump yet but I’m already feeling very tight through my hips and back. I love this modified hip flexor stretch as it puts my spine into a good position without thinking about it too much. I followed this up with modified tabletop taps as my back isn’t loving doing these on the floor at the moment but it is important to keep working on trunk strength. 
1. Place roller at base of Lower back
2. Bring the ribs down... no flaring !!
3. Bring one knee up towards your chest as you slide the other leg away.
4. Actively push the straight leg into the floor to increase the activation/stretch
5. Repeat on other side

Historically, most running shoes have been made for a heel strike running style by providing 'cushioning' and 'stability' for the foot. However, recently, minimalist shoes, designed for mid-forefoot runners, have come out as there has been some evidence to suggest that mid-forefoot running is more efficient and reduces impact loading.

Is mid-forefoot running better than heel striking? Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer as it really depends on the individual.🤷‍️

STUDIOWANIE FIZJOTERAPII- I MIESIĄC. Bo właśnie miał być post po tygodniu, potem po dwóch, a jutro mija już miesiąc od mojego przyjazdu na studia do Warszawy.  Przez na prawdę prawie cały czas kiedy tutaj jestem, jest pozytywnie i w kontaktach ze znajomymi, na wykładach, cwiczeniami itp. (Oczywiście jakaś socjologia itp. to zapychacz w przedmiotach i najlepiej byłoby nie chodzić, a kuć wtedy anatomię, ale prowadzący lubi  śmieszkowac, kreatywnie prowadzi wykład i jakoś tego czasu aż tak się nie czuję) Większość przedmiotow też jest dosyć wymagająca, przez co zostaje mi bardzo czasu na np. mojego studygrama itp. ,ale po tym miesiacu spędzonym tutaj wiem, że dobrze zrobiłam, wybierając to miejsce.  Ogólnie jestem mega zadowolona ze studiow i maturnę w przyszłym roku będę poprawiać jedynie dla własnej przyjemności, bo na ten moment za żadne skarby nie chciałabym się przenosić.  Także udało mi się dostać do zespołu tańca ludowego, wiec duża część mojego czasu poświęcam właśnie na taniec i różne inne ćwiczenia.  Z pełnym przekonaniem po tym miesiącu mogę powiedzieć, że to moje miejsce i każdego dnia staram się jak najlepiej wykorzystywać potencjał jaki daje mi studiowanie tutaj. Pewnie będzie jeszcze dużo wzlotów i upadków, dużo znajomych odejdzie ze studiów ( po pierwszym roku odpada okolo 1/4 osob), kogoś przestanę lubić, itp.  ale teraz jestem na prawdę szczęśliwa, że się tutaj znalazłam. Ktoś może powiedzieć, że to zbyt piękne, ale uprzedzam, też mam wlasne problemy, nie jest się łatwo samemu po częśći utrzymywać,  mieszkać w akademiku, codziennie gotować,robić zakupy ale też oszczędzać itp., ale nie skupiam się na trudnościach, tylko na tym, co pozytywne i z czego mogę czerpać energię.  Także jestem zasypana różnymi obowiązkami i aktywnościami w ciągu tygodnia, a na naukę poświęcam znaczną część mojego czasu, ale postaram się tym razem może trochę szybciej odezwać ;D.
